In 2021, BSB achieved a significant milestone by converting this environmentally-friendly nanoporous silica into Hydrophobic, Superhydrophobic and eventually the Oleophobic range. In line with continuous product development and in answer to the market demand, BSB along with Fozdar Dynamics is now launching a new additive known as Oleophobic Colloidal Silica for both Waterborne and Solvent borne coating applications. Clear top coats which exhibit both water and oil repellency can be produced to protect a range of substrates such as non-porous glass, metal, composites, Wood & MDF, Textile & fabric, etc.
As an additive, Oleophobic Silica, when added to paints and coatings protects the coated surface by not allowing oil to be absorbed by the surface which ultimately makes it anti fingerprint, smudge resistant and oil repellent. The key advantage of Oleophobic Silica in colloidal is the ease of dispersing the silica into liquid formulations. Due to high surface activity, colloidal silica accumulates on the surface of the coating, and because of -OH reactivity (Primary & secondary), it can be integrated into the polymer network by reacting with suitable binders. Hence, effects of which are maintained for a long period of time.
Apart from the easy-to-clean effect, the Biosilico Oleophobic Colloidal Silica also demonstrates improvement in substrate wetting, water resistance, blush resistance, Anti-blocking properties and weather resistance.
This latest development has further expanded BSB’s capability of converting rice husk, an agricultural residue, into an additives for applications in industries ranging from Paints & Coatings, Rubber & Plastics, Cosmetics, Agriculture, and many more.
BSB will be launching the range of Biosilico Oleophobic Colloidal Silica along with its partners at the SUSTAINABLE CHEMICAL WEEK (KOREA) from 22 – 24 March 2023 and at the EUROPEAN COATING SHOW (NUREMBERG) from 28 – 30 March 2023.
